Grade 3 Chrsitmas Show

Chrsitmas is here and it's time for the school to share a moment with all of the familes. The polar bears dabceed and sang to All I want for Christmas is You by Mariah Carey. Everyone had a really fun time and finally it felt like Christmas was coming!!



 

Then our beloved polar bears presented Wonderful Christmas Time!! 

 

 

 

And that is the message we would like to leave you with today. That each one of you has a wonderful Christmas and a great new year and we will be waiting for you to all return to grade 4 next year, safe and sound and ready to continue all the great work you having been doing up to now in Saint George's College.

Grade 3 Maths: Division

Using a very visual demonstracion, we looked at the idea of division. A great way to understand the ideas:



 

Then we used the slides 3 to 8 in the following presentation to look at more examples and the rules of division.

 



Grade 3 Social Studies: The Spanish and the Incas

This week we took a look at the Spanish when they came to Peru and met the Incas and how the two cultures effected each other.

We started by watching a video about the death of Atahualpa:

And the class worked in groups to put together some posters explaining some of the main points about the Incas. 

 

 

 

Grade 3 Maths: Negative numbers

This week we talked about numbers that are less than ZERO!! Here we can use negative numbers.

We took a look at a nice video that explains the idea of why we need negative numbers and how they can be added and subtracted from each other.



 

We can use some of these slide to help us understand too :)

 



Grade 3 Social Studies: Comparing Maps

Now the world is getting smaller and more and more we visit other countries. What can we learn about a place by using maps? Is it just about where things are or can we learn more things?

First we looked at what a globe is and how it too, like a map, can represent the countires and geography of the planet.

 

 

Next we set up a little experiments using the desks in the class to see how we can represent more information about a demographic using different types of maps. 

 

 

Finally we should be able to compare differnet maps to see how differnet information can be put onto different styles of map. 

 

 

Now we won't get lost when researching other countries!! 

Grade 3 Maths: Decimal Numbers

Last week grade 3 worked on decimal numbers looking at

• Ordering Decimals File
• Ordering money decimals File
• Adding and subtracting decimal problems

We enjoyed a song to help us understand

Actuando para mis compañeros

Los niños crearon un texto teatral por grupos, después de la clase realizada acerca del Texto Dramático. Les gustó mucho crear sus historias y personajes, trabajando la organización y participación, aportando sus ideas, aceptando las de los demás y mejorando todo en conjunto. Décimas

La décima es un tipo de poesía, donde cada estrofa está compuesta por diez versos, con la composición a/b/b/a/a/c/c/d/d/c. Los representantes más resaltantes de nuestro país, son Nicomedes Santa Cruz y su hermana Victoria Santa Cruz. Siendo sus composiciones famosas, representadas y aprendidas hasta el día de hoy. Aquí dos videos, uno de Nicomedes Santa Cruz y el que sigue de Victoria Santa Cruz.

Comprensión lectora

Hola chicos:

Para la tarea de Comprensión lectora, van a entrar a la dirección que se encuentra abajo y leerán el texto acerca del Valle del Colca.

Recuerden que deben leerlo, mínimo dos veces, y siempre hacerse la pregunta ¿De qué se trata el texto?

Otra técnica que puede ayudarles, es contarle a alguien en casa, lo que han leído, todo lo que recuerden.

Por último, desarrollarán la ficha que se entregó en clase y deberán hacerla sin estar viendo la lectura.

Es responsabilidad de cada uno, entregarla en el tiempo indicado.

Retahílas

Las retahílas son juegos de palabras que nos ayudan a desarrollar la memoria auditiva y corporal a manera de juego.
Los pequeños Polar Bears, se organizaron y aprendieron una retahíla para hacerla en clase, frente a sus compañeros.

Investigating habitats

Last week, we started talking about habitats. Grade 3 students understood that just like you and me all animals and plants need a place to live in. They learned that there are different examples of habitats in the world from a big forest to a simple drop of water in which some microorganisms are found.
They were very interested in learning more about habitats. All students participated in a game in which they had to click the animal under the right category.
